Join us next Saturday at noon to learn how you can get involved with Love Street. We’ll be talking about specific areas of need but also calling on your creativity to explore opportunities for growth of our programs. This will also include discussion of volunteer opportunities for the Come Togtether event.

Come Together

Planning and preparations for Come Together continue and remain well on track for September 17. Tickets will go on sale on May 15. The full website (www.cometogetherhouston.com) will go live some time before that. You can get the latest news atwww.patrickwaites.com.

We anticipate that this event will get a lot of publicity, so it would be a great opportunity to associate your company’s name with a good cause. We already have several corporate sponsors. If you would like more information on the sponsorship levels and benefits, please contact patrick@lovestreetlightcircus.org.

We are also currently seeking members for our host committee. As a host committee member your job is simple: buy a ticket and encourage your friends to do the same. Your service on the host committee will serve as a signal to others that this is not only an event that they should support but also one at which they know they will have fun. Hope for Haiti Benefit

Thanks to everyone who came out to 13 Celsius in support of Hope for Haiti. Ian and Mike were great hosts, and Terri DiRaddo brought it all together. Thanks of course also to Andy DiRaddo of LD Systems, which provided sound, and the bands: Girl Friday, Kozmic Pearl and it alter ego Zig-Zag, and Tie-Dye Sky. Speaking of Tie-Dye Sky…

One Last Band Message

We received reports of some confision about our last message concerning the spin-off of the band, so we will give it one last comment.

Love Street is not about any one band. It is about the music community helping children’s charities. Although the Love Street band was a great way to get the word out, it also confused the message. Lots of bands have participated in Love Street! And lots more will in the future. In effect, they are all Love Street bands.

But the Love Street band did not, well, disband. It just is doing its own thing under a new name, Tie-Dye Sky. It remains actively involved with Love Street, including Come Together and other performances for children’s charities. But you can also see it out around town. The best way to keep track of it is to become a “fan” on Facebook or to join the mailing list atwww.tiedyeskyband.com or www.reverbnation.com/tiedyesky.

HOUSTON – Enjoy a glass of wine and help raise funds for a great cause – and break out your tie-dye shirts – on Sunday, Feb. 28 from 12 noon to 5 pm with several local bands to raise funds for Haiti relief effort.

The benefit features Houston performers Girl Friday, Tie-Dye Sky, and Janis Joplin tribute band Kozmic Pearl. The musicians are donating their time in association with Love Street Light Circus, the Houston non-profit that brings together local musicians with charitable causes.

There is no cover charge, and all donations received at the door and a percentage of beverage and food sales by 13 Celsius will go to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief effort. All donations made to the Haiti rebuilding effort made by Feb. 28 can be deducted from 2009 tax returns.

Houston Civic Symphony joins Come Together

Love Street is pleased to announce that Houston Civic Symphony will join the bands on stage on September 17 as part of Come Together. As previously mentioned, as the music currently stands, approximately 20 songs will involve orchestral parts. So HCS will be a big part of the show! Welcome!

White Album for Purple Songs

White Album for Purple Songs was a truly specical evening of music and fun. Held on November 16, 2008, the event benefitted the Purple Songs Can Fly Project at Texas Chidren’s Cancer Center. For a recap including some great photos, click here.

Relatively few people know the hidden gem that is George Harrison’s Savoy Truffle, a song about a box of sweets that his friend Eric Clapton couldn’t resist. The sweetest of them all was the Savoy Truffle.

If you are a Houston-area charity that benefits children in some way, then we are here to serve you. Whether you are having a fundraising event or just a party for clients, families or supporters, you’ll want to have music!

Charities often spend thousands of dollars on a band - money that could go the bottom line. And while we do think it usually is money well spent, all the better if you can get great music without the cost. That’s where we come in.

Love Street never charges for what it does. We actively recruit bands and other performers in the Houston music community, encouraging them to give something back by donating their time and talent. Make Love Street your first call and see what we can do.

Come Together on September 17; band lineup revealed

Come Together is now set for September 17, 2010. Look for the official website launch soon! http://www.cometogetherhouston.com

We will have more details soon, but we can now confirm four of the five groups that will be join forces to make Come Together a fabulous evening: Abbey Rode, Beetle, and the Fab 5 (Houston’s three Beatles tribute acts) will be joined by a full orchestra and the former Love Street band, now called Tie-Dye Sky. Each rock band will play an hour set. The orchestra will back the bands on about 20 of the songs. We will reveal the name of the orchestra soon!
