Because the love you take is equal to the love you make.

THE WORD vol. 1

May 27, 2009

The Word…

Welcome to the new Love Street Light Circus newsletter. We call it simply: The Word.  Why?  No, it is not because “The Bird is the Word.”  You should know.  If you don’t, you’ll have to read to the end to find out.

We’ve saved up some exciting news for our first edition. You can find out about two opportunities to catch the band in the next few weeks,  including a free show this Friday in the Woodlands Town Center.  You can also hear about the recent kickoff of the TONIC program, and more!

RAINN Over Houston - June 19

The band is also pleased to announce that it will be closing the show at the inaugural RAINN Over Houston event on June 19. The band will be joined by event organizer / recording artist Jennifer Grassman on keys and vocals as it performs the Beatles’ Rubber Soul album.  For sticklers, the band notes that it will perform the UK version plus the additional tracks on the US version.

The event will benefit RAINN - the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network.  Advance VIP tickets are just $25 and will be on sale any day now.   Check the RAINN Over Houston website for ticket sales and more information.

TONIC is Underway

Love Street’s TONIC program got a great start on Cinco de Mayo with Andy Vargas (Santana lead singer) and David de la Garza (La Mafia). The program involves a monthly three-stop mini-tour at Shriners and Texas Children’s.  Not only the children but also the parents and staff really enjoyed the performances. You can read more about it and see a video piece by the Houston Chronicle on our website.

TONIC performances are already booked into next year. We are pleased to have performances scheduled by Wayside Drive; Jennifer Grassman; The Hypocrites’ Lonnie Pena and Leon Holley, joined by the young but talented Ren Patrick; Dr. Rick and the Burners, Texas Music Awards winner  T.C. Smythe, Nightbird, and of course the Love Street band. We do have openings in October 2009 and February and March 2010.   We are also seeking a few more volunteers to assist with the program in other ways. If you are interested in performing participating in another capacity, please contact patrick@lovestreetlightcircus.org.

The Band is in Demand

Even with only a few gigs  under its belt, interest in the band has been high. We are excited that in addition to a scheduled TONIC performance and RAINN Over Houston, the band has shows booked for the Candlelighters and the  Children’s Assessment Center.  Other events are in the planning stages.

If you are fortunate enough not to need the services of these fine organizations, you can see the band THIS FRIDAY, May 29.  It will be performing a free outdoor show from 6-8 pm, adjacent to Tommy Bahamas (9595 Six Pines Dr.).  The event is sponsored by K-Hits and will feature Dean & Rog.  You can always get the current band schedule at www.lovestreetlightcircus.org/band/schedule.

Welcome to Chad McManus

Please welcome the newest member of the Love Street band, Chad McManus.  Chad’s primary role is bass, but he can also pitch in on vocals, keys and guitar.  No word yet on whether he can also drum.  Chad’s bio can be found on the band’s webpage.

How to Get Involved
